The performance dates are now on my engagements page and some more sound files of a concert that I conducted last year with Mezzo-Soprano, Emilie Renard are on the Media page. More dates, including the ENO Orfeo dates, to come and plenty of exciting developments for 2015 to announce in the coming weeks!

  • Alcina in Oslo

    Saturday 25th January 2014

Today we have performance number three of Handel, Alcina at Norwegian National Opera. It’s been a fantastic and rewarding rehearsal process, but so great to be in performances now enjoying the sweep of Handel’s masterpiece.

When I go into the pit today, I’ll be finding myself surrounded by a really extraordinary group of musicians. Barokksolistene is a group of players, mostly based in Scandinavia and hand-picked by their director, violinist Bjarte Eike. They are a really inspirational ensemble – full of energy and commitment to the music. Most importantly, this sense of fun and passion is infectious to the audience.

It’s been fantastic working alongside Bjarte on this project. We have shared the musical leadership of this project from the start and although this might sound unusual, it has felt incredibly organic and most importantly, truthful to the music. Both the cast of singers and the orchestra adapted immediately to our way of working.

We have six more performances to enjoy before I finally return to the UK - for more Handel!
